About Me

Mike McDonnell is a therapist in Columbus serving central Ohio in-person and people

throughout Ohio virtually. I work with people seeking ways to overcome challenges in

their lives

Mike has over a decade of experience, working as a therapist with children and adults.

He graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Masters in Social Science

Administration in 2014. Even before graduating, Mike had been mentoring and working

with at-risk youth all over Cleveland through various organizations, including the LGBT

Center.

While Mike has a passion to serve his own community, the LGBTQ+ Community, Mike

has experience working with people from all backgrounds. His passion is helping

people work through their challenges including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder,

relationship challenges, personality disorders, body image issues, and more.

Mike has training in many different types of techniques including cognitive-behavioral,

strength based,, dialectical behavioral treatment, and solution focused therapy. However,

he believes no one type of treatment meets the needs of a client and uses all types of

treatments to meet their unique needs.

Mike has a passion to help the people he is working with. He provides a judgmental free

space for clients to be vulnerable and to explore their lives with an objective person.  He

collaborates with the client to make the changes the client chooses to work on.

My Philosophy

My goal in treatment is to help people with whatever challenge it is that they are experiencing. My training has prepared me to work with diverse populations and ages. Specifically, specializing in adults with a passion for the LGBTQ+ Community, whom I identify with. I have a history of specifically working with people who have struggled with mood disorders, anxiety, and relationship conflicts. I work to help clients reach their goals, however they define them. I look forward to helping you on your own journey.

I do not believe in being focused on only one treatment model, rather I adapt to the patient's needs and use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic therapy and various other treatment models. In my practice I focus on what helps the patient, not a specific type of treatment.

I invite those interested in receiving mental health to reach out so they can begin their journey towards their recovery in whatever way they define that recovery. I am here to provide a safe space and support, as you work towards your goals. I will be walking on your side through whatever trail you choose.
